The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Unveil a Latest Divinity, Labeling it Their Biggest RPG Ever

The anticipation around the recent awards show was significant, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic photo of a strange statue. The secret has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is working on a brand-new Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer that included intense imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal opening of infernal gates.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian clarified that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.

That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This phrasing hints that the team might be designing a more action-oriented experience as opposed to another turn-based title. At this moment, it remains theory, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it sparked the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for detailed worlds, choice-driven narratives, and deep class systems—qualities that recently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency granted to the player.

Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is brimming with unique possibilities only possible if you're playing as a specific type of character with a unique decision path.

The series is also wonderfully open-ended, letting players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be approached in multiple ways, sometimes in lateral fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you recalled something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by moving environmental hazards in a inventive way.

More to Come

It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games ever made. Now, players can look forward to more where that came from in this groundbreaking franchise.
